Library Services

finding resources

Students are encouraged to avail themselves of the following sources of information:

  • The librarians                                                                                                                               Students should ask in person at the Loans Desk anytime for help with locating the resources they need. They can also email one of the Librarians with their query.
  • Library catalogues                                                                                                     Dedicated terminals in the Library, as well as all networked computers in the College, provide access via the Internet to College's Library catalogue as well as the catalogues of the State Library and other Tasmanian libraries.
  • World Wide Web                                                                                                               Students can search the WWW using their Internet access.  Online help is available to all students for finding resources on the WWW.
  • Reference materials                                                                                                     Researchers can use print sources such as the Library’s encyclopaedias for authoritative, condensed information, and dictionaries for definitions. The State Library of Tasmania provides links to online reference sources.
  • Databases                                                                                                                       eLibrary (once: Electric Library) and Australian and New Zealand Reference Centre  provide access to full-text articles from newspapers and magazines (as well as from books, maps, pictures, audio/visual, TV and radio transcripts). Access to these databases is restricted to staff and students of the College.
  • Statistics                                                                                                                                  The Australian Bureau of Statistics is online and in print, and includes Tasmanian statistics. Other sources include Statistical Resources on the Web and the State Library of Tasmania’s International Statistics.
