International Students

Pre-Departure Information

Climate:
There are four seasons in Tasmania. Check which time of year you will be coming to see what the weather will be like:

Clothing:
Students at Hobart College usually dress informally.  Clothing can be expensive compared with other countries, so try to bring as much as you can from home.
Remember to bring:
Jeans/trousers
Tee-shirts/shirts
Sweaters/jumpers/windcheaters
A suit, if your course requires it
One formal outfit
Shoes – walking shoes, sports shoes, summer shoes
A warm coat or jacket


Other important items:
Alarm clock
Raincoat/umbrella
Photographs
A dictionary
Any medical items or prescriptions

Please ask before you come if you have any concerns about what clothing to bring.

Do you have all the documents you will need?
(Make sure you carry them at all times)
Valid passport
Air ticket
Departure tax
Valid visa
Letter of offer/confirmation of enrolment from International Services
Original/certified copies of your academic results
Other personal identification eg: International driver’s licence, identification card, enrolment advice form (including Homestay details)

Have you checked?
That your baggage is limited to 20kg (unless ticketed differently)
That your flight is to the correct city
That you arrive in time for Orientation (if appropriate)
If there are any flight detail changes on your trip please phone your Homestay and tell them the change.
Phone International Services and tell them of the change

Have you informed International Services about? 
Your accommodation details (Make sure you bring this information with you on your trip)
Have you informed Schools International of your arrival details?

Make sure that you carry with your hand luggage:
This booklet, with emergency contact phone numbers for International Services
Some cash in Australian dollars
Warm clothing, such as a sweater and jacket
A pen
Homestay profile (this will be useful to read on your journey to Australia)
I D P Homestay book (this will be useful to read on your journey to Australia)
